Our History

Since 1956, the Lake-Lehman Band has been entertaining audiences with its unique style. Traveling extensively throughout the eastern seaboard from Canada to Florida, the band has brought home more than 1200 trophies to grace the halls of our school.

Our program is renowned for its successes in all facets of its musical endeavors. Students can participate in concert, parade, jazz, or field show band, as well as indoor percussion and indoor guard. The marching band is an important part of our program and has proven very successful. They have performed in Washington D.C. for the Cherry Blossom Festival and in Harrisburg for the governor's inauguration. They have been Atlantic Coast Champions nine times, the first band to accomplish this feat.

As a member of the Lake-Lehman Band, one becomes part of a history rich in tradition and honor. Some of the honors that have been bestowed on the band have been in the form of formal citations by the Pennsylvania State Governor and the White House, as well as a proclamation by the Pennsylvania State Senate. The band has won national and international championships as well as many state and regional championships.

The band has been a "stepping off" point for many of our alumni to pursue music on a higher level. A large number of our graduates have gone on to perform in various college bands, orchestras, jazz bands and other ensembles. Some of these alumni have performed at this level of music for the sheer joy of it, while others have chosen the field of music as their life's work. The influence of the band on the lives of its members is one facet of the music program that is often overlooked.

For more than 30 years, the band was under the direction of Mr. John Miliauskas. His sense of dedication and discipline has left an indelible mark on the band. In 1989, Mr. Miliauskas turned the responsibility of leading this group of young musicians over to Mr. Edward A. Richards. During his thirteen years, the band continued to grow and flourish. In 2002, Mr. Michael Robinson was installed as our new band director. In his two years with the band, Mr. Robinson upheld the high standards of the program and worked towards increasing the organization and musical opportunities of the band. A new chapter in the history of the Lake-Lehman Band began in 2004 with the hiring of our current band director, Mr. Greg Riley. Mr. Riley is dedicated to honoring the past while striving for higher standards in the future.
